International Desk:
Iran has declared its missile capability a “red line,” making it clear that there will be no negotiations or compromise on the issue with the United States.
The position was reiterated on Wednesday by a senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader during a rally marking the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. His remarks were carried by Iranian state media and reported by Reuters.
Ali Shamkhani said the Islamic Republic’s missile capability is non-negotiable and will not be part of any discussions with Washington.
The announcement comes at a time when Tehran and Washington are preparing for a new round of talks aimed at easing tensions. Last week, diplomats from the two countries participated in indirect negotiations in Oman.
Earlier on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had also emphasized that Tehran’s missile programme has never been on the agenda for talks.
The United States has long argued that discussions over Iran’s nuclear programme should be broadened to include its missile activities. While Iran has indicated willingness to accept limits on its nuclear programme in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, it has repeatedly rejected linking other issues—particularly its missile programme—to any nuclear agreement.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington on Wednesday. Analysts expect Netanyahu to press for the inclusion of restrictions on Iran’s missile programme in any potential deal between Tehran and Washington.
