Quetta, Jan 31, 2026 — At least 47 people have been killed following a wave of coordinated terrorist attacks across Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan, authorities said on Saturday. The attacks targeted police vehicles, prisons, and paramilitary facilities in 12 locations, prompting large-scale counter-operations by security forces.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that 10 security personnel were killed in the initial assaults, while 37 attackers were shot dead during retaliatory operations. He praised security forces for what he described as “timely and effective action” that prevented further casualties.
According to provincial officials, the attacks began almost simultaneously across the province early Saturday morning. In the provincial capital Quetta, two police officers were killed when a police vehicle was hit by a grenade. Authorities declared an emergency at all government hospitals following the violence.
In Mastung district, militants stormed a prison, freeing more than 30 inmates. Attempted attacks on paramilitary headquarters in Nushki and security checkpoints in Kharan, Tump, and Balincha were repelled. Grenades were also thrown at a government administrator’s office in Dalbandin, while attempted passenger kidnappings in Pasni and Gwadar were thwarted by police.
Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar blamed the violence on the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which is designated as a terrorist organization by both Pakistan and the United States.
Pakistan alleged that the group receives backing from India, a claim New Delhi has repeatedly denied. Islamabad also accused militant groups of using Afghan territory to launch attacks, an allegation Afghanistan has rejected.
The attacks underscore ongoing security challenges in Balochistan, a resource-rich but restive province that has witnessed years of separatist violence and insurgency.
