Arijit Singh Announces Retirement From Playback Singing

Badshah, Kumar Sanu, Amaal Mallik and others react emotionally as the celebrated singer says he will not take new playback assignments

Renowned Indian singer Arijit Singh stunned millions of fans and members of the music industry on January 27 after announcing his retirement from playback singing. The announcement came via an Instagram post, in which the singer stated that he would no longer take up new assignments as a playback vocalist. He did not disclose the reason behind his decision.
In his heartfelt note, Arijit wrote, “Hello. Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it quits. It was a wonderful journey.”
The sudden decision triggered an outpouring of emotional reactions from fellow musicians, actors, and fans across the country.
Veteran singer Kumar Sanu expressed deep sadness, calling Arijit’s voice “one in a million.” He praised the singer’s courage and humility, adding that Arijit would always remain a global star. Rapper Badshah summed up his admiration in just a few words, writing, “Sadiyon mein ek (one in a century).”
Singer B Praak called himself a “Fan for life,” while composer Amaal Mallik said he was struggling to process the news but fully respected Arijit’s decision. “I was, I am, and will always remain an Arijit Singh fan,” he wrote. Armaan Malik echoed similar sentiments, thanking Arijit for his dedication to the craft.
Several film personalities also reacted emotionally. Actress Richa Chadha posted a crying emoji, casting director Mukesh Chhabra shared a broken-heart emoji, and rapper-singer Raja Kumari commented cryptically, “The time has come.”
