Bangladesh to Skip T20 World Cup Matches in India

BCB informs ICC it cannot send the team to India and requests Bangladesh’s fixtures be moved to another country

Dhaka, Jan 4, 2026 — Bangladesh will not send its national team to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to security concerns, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka next month, with Bangladesh’s matches originally set to take place in India. In an email sent to the ICC on Sunday, the BCB cited security risks and said it would not be possible for the team to participate in matches on Indian soil. The board also requested that Bangladesh’s fixtures be relocated to another country.
BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim confirmed the development to the media, saying the board would soon clarify its position formally. “We will issue an official press release shortly to explain our stance,” he said.
The ICC is yet to respond publicly to the request, and it remains unclear whether Bangladesh’s matches will be rescheduled at alternative venues or if other arrangements will be made.
