UK Royal Family Security Breach Sparks Fresh Concerns, Intruder Arrested

Police detain a man accused of entering Kensington Palace grounds twice during the Christmas period

London, Jan 1, 2026 — Security concerns surrounding the British royal family have resurfaced after police arrested a man accused of unlawfully entering the grounds of Kensington Palace, the London residence of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
According to a report by the Daily Express, the suspect, identified as Derek Egan, allegedly trespassed into the palace compound on two separate occasions within a matter of days during the Christmas holidays. At the time of the incidents, the Prince and Princess of Wales were not present at the residence.
Officials from the Metropolitan Police’s Royal and Specialist Protection Command reportedly spotted the suspect inside the palace premises on December 21 and again on December 23, before taking him into custody. He was found carrying a large rucksack at the time of his arrest.
During a court appearance, the accused reportedly displayed disruptive behavior. District Judge Sam Goozee denied him bail, citing his conduct toward the court and law enforcement authorities. The judge warned that the suspect could face imprisonment if convicted.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the case is being treated with utmost seriousness due to its implications for royal security. Prosecutors added that, given the national security concerns involved, approval from the Attorney General is required to proceed with the case.
Following the incident, renewed discussions have emerged regarding the adequacy of security arrangements for the royal family. Authorities have assured that measures will be reviewed and strengthened to prevent similar breaches in the future.
