One of the accused in the Hadi murder case, Faisal Karim Masud, has fled the country and is currently staying in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In a video message sent recently from an undisclosed location, Masud denied any involvement in the killing, calling the incident a “conspiracy” against him.
In the video, Masud said he holds a five-year multiple-entry visa for Dubai and has legally left Bangladesh. Referring to the murder of Hadi, he claimed that neither he nor his family had any connection to the crime. He rejected allegations linked to CCTV footage, stating that he was not on the motorcycle seen in the footage and that the rider was not his younger brother. “We have been falsely implicated,” he said.
Masud acknowledged that he had professional dealings with the deceased. He said he had visited Hadi’s office for business purposes, explaining that he runs an IT firm and has been involved in business for the past 10 years. According to Masud, he was in contact with Hadi over assurances of securing government projects under the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Food. He claimed to have paid Hadi Tk 500,000 in advance and provided financial support for Hadi’s political activities. Masud also alleged that he had given Hadi Tk 10,000 on the morning of the day the murder took place.
However, Masud pointed to a different motive behind the killing. He described Hadi as a “product of Jamaat,” claiming that the deceased had long-standing links with Jamaat-e-Islami and alleging that the group was somehow responsible for the incident.
Masud further accused law enforcement agencies of harassing and torturing his family members in connection with the case. “My family is completely innocent. I strongly protest the oppression being carried out against them,” he said.
Responding to questions about his bank accounts and financial transactions, Masud claimed that all the money was earned through legitimate business activities and government bill payments. He stated that he is a regular taxpayer and paid Tk 900,000 in income tax this year.
Despite releasing the video message, Masud did not disclose when exactly he left the country or his current location in Dubai. Authorities said the matter is under investigation.
