Sheikh Hasina Offers Condolences on Khaleda Zia’s Death

Former prime minister remembered for her role in democratic movements and as Bangladesh’s first female head of government

Bangladesh Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep sorrow over the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

In a condolence message, Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has lost a prominent political leader with Khaleda Zia’s passing. She noted that as the country’s first female prime minister, Khaleda Zia played a significant role in Bangladesh’s political history and contributed notably to movements for the restoration of democracy.

“She was an important figure in the nation’s politics, and her death is an irreparable loss for the current political landscape as well as for the leadership of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP),” the message said.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended her heartfelt condolences to Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman and other bereaved family members.

She also expressed hope that Almighty Allah would grant patience and strength to the grieving family and to BNP leaders and supporters to overcome this moment of profound sorrow.
