The Indian Army has established three new military outposts in the strategically vital Siliguri Corridor, close to the Bangladesh border, to strengthen security in the region, according to sources. The narrow stretch of land—often referred to as the “Chicken’s Neck”—is India’s only land link between the northeastern states and the mainland, making it a core strategic lifeline.
In a related move, Indian authorities are also actively considering the establishment of a new army base in Mizoram, near the India–Bangladesh border. The steps are being evaluated in light of evolving border dynamics, regional instability, and long-term strategic considerations.
Security officials say the new deployments will significantly enhance rapid response capabilities in India’s northeastern frontier, reduce risks of infiltration and destabilization, and reinforce the overall security perimeter of the Siliguri Corridor.
Officials emphasized that the move is not an aggressive posture but a defensive measure aimed at safeguarding one of India’s most critical strategic corridors amid changing regional realities.
