Greta Thunberg Arrested in the UK During Pro-Palestine Protest

Swedish climate activist detained for displaying a placard supporting the banned group Palestine Action during a demonstration in central London.

London, December 23, 2025 — Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has been arrested by UK police after taking part in a pro-Palestine demonstration in central London, according to media reports.

The 22-year-old activist joined protesters outside the Aspen Insurance office on Tuesday in a demonstration organised by Palestine Action supporters. Thunberg was seen holding a placard reading, “I support Palestine Action prisoners and oppose genocide.”

The City of London Police did not officially name Thunberg but confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old woman for displaying a placard in support of a banned organisation. Authorities said the arrest was made under laws related to the prohibition of Palestine Action.

The UK government officially banned Palestine Action in July, citing security concerns. Since the ban came into effect, hundreds of demonstrators have reportedly been arrested across the country for expressing support for the group.

The arrest of Thunberg, who is internationally known for her climate activism, has sparked renewed debate over freedom of expression and the policing of pro-Palestinian protests in the United Kingdom.
