Hindutva Groups Protest at Bangladesh Mission in Delhi

Demonstration over alleged killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh turns violent, prompting heightened security and suspension of consular services

New Delhi, December 23, 2025 — Hindutva organizations staged a protest outside the Bangladesh High Commission in India’s capital New Delhi on Tuesday, alleging persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh following the killing of a Hindu man. The demonstration, called by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, led to clashes with police despite heavy security arrangements.

From early morning, authorities tightened security around the High Commission premises, setting up multiple layers of barricades. However, protesters attempted to breach the barriers, resulting in confrontations with law enforcement personnel. Police struggled to control the situation as several barricades were damaged during the protest.

According to Indian media outlet The Hindu, the protesters were reacting to the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a garment factory worker in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, who was allegedly beaten to death on December 18 over accusations of religious disrespect. His body was reportedly set on fire after the attack, triggering outrage among Hindutva groups in India.

For several days, demonstrations have been taking place across parts of India, with protesters accusing Bangladeshi authorities of failing to protect the Hindu minority. During the protest in New Delhi, demonstrators carried flags and placards and raised slogans demanding justice. Some leaders declared that they would seek accountability “for every drop of Hindu blood.”

One protester said, “A Hindu has been brutally murdered. We urge our government to take strict action against those responsible and expect the Bangladesh police to ensure exemplary punishment.” Another demonstrator added that Hindus living in neighboring countries deserve safety and dignity, just as India respects all communities.

Banners and placards displayed during the protest carried strong messages against the Bangladeshi government. In response to the unrest, the entire area around the High Commission was cordoned off with three-tier security, involving police and paramilitary forces.

Amid the tense situation, the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi announced the suspension of all consular and visa services until further notice, citing security concerns.

The incident has added to growing diplomatic and public tensions between Bangladesh and India over minority rights and cross-border sensitivities.
