Chengdu, China -The use of robots in entertainment is rapidly expanding, and a recent concert in China has showcased how far the technology has come. At the “Best Place Tour” concert held in Chengdu, a singer performed alongside several robots that danced in sync with the music, captivating audiences both on-site and online.

According to media outlet Futurism, the robots were selected as “co-performers” and appeared on stage wearing specially designed costumes, making their movements more visually appealing. They danced to the song “Open Fire” alongside human dancers, though much of the audience attention remained focused on the robots.

Organisers said one of the main goals of the performance was to demonstrate how robots can be integrated into cultural and artistic spaces, beyond their traditional industrial and technical roles.

Videos of the performance quickly went viral on social media platforms such as X and Instagram. Tesla CEO Elon Musk also reacted to the clip, describing the performance as “amazing.” The widespread sharing has prompted comparisons between China’s advancing robotics sector and Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus.

Social media reactions were mixed. Some users praised the innovation, with one commenting, “Artificial intelligence is taking over the stage—watch these robots dance!” Others predicted that robot performances would become even more common by 2026. However, some viewers felt that human dancers still delivered a more fluid and expressive performance.

The viral performance highlights both the growing capabilities of robotics and the ongoing debate about how artificial intelligence may reshape creative industries in the near future.
