Dhaka, December 21, 2025 —
Kylian Mbappé equalled a historic Cristiano Ronaldo record as Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 2–0 in La Liga, ending the year with a much-needed victory at the Santiago Bernabéu after two consecutive home defeats.
Jude Bellingham gave Real Madrid the lead in the 38th minute with a powerful header from a Rodrygo cross, following several missed chances at both ends. Sevilla had opportunities to score earlier in the match but failed to capitalize, while Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also made key saves.
The match remained competitive after the break, with both sides exchanging attacks. Sevilla’s hopes suffered a major blow in the 68th minute when defender Marcão Teixeira was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for fouling Bellingham.
With four minutes remaining, Real Madrid were awarded a penalty after Rodrygo was fouled inside the box. Mbappé calmly converted the spot kick to seal the win and reach 59 goals in a single calendar year for the club — matching Ronaldo’s landmark achievement from 2013.
The French World Cup winner celebrated with Ronaldo’s iconic “Siu” gesture, acknowledging the Portuguese star whom he has often cited as an inspiration. The goal also marked Mbappé’s 18th strike in 18 La Liga matches this season.
The victory reduced Real Madrid’s gap at the top of the table to just one point behind leaders Barcelona. Carlo Ancelotti’s side sit second with 42 points from 18 matches, while defending champions Barcelona have 43 points with a game in hand.
The result not only boosted Real Madrid’s title hopes but also highlighted Mbappé’s growing impact in white as he continues to write his name alongside the club’s greatest legends.
