US Embassy Warns Citizens Ahead of Sharif Osman Hadi’s Funeral in Dhaka

Embassy urges Americans to avoid large gatherings as funeral prayers are expected to draw massive crowds and cause traffic disruption

Dhaka, December 19, 2025 — The United States Embassy in Dhaka has issued a security advisory for US citizens ahead of the funeral of young political leader Sharif Osman Hadi, warning of possible congestion and security risks surrounding the event.

In a notice released on Friday, the embassy said Hadi’s body is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at 6:05 pm on Friday (December 19). His funeral prayers (janaza) are expected to take place on Saturday (December 20) after Zuhr prayers, around 2:00 pm, on Manik Mia Avenue in front of the National Parliament building.

The embassy cautioned that significant traffic congestion is likely in the surrounding areas and across Dhaka due to the large turnout expected for the funeral. US citizens have been advised to remain vigilant and to avoid demonstrations and large public gatherings.

“Even events intended to be peaceful can escalate and turn violent,” the advisory warned, urging Americans to exercise increased caution near any large crowd or protest.

The warning comes amid heightened political tension and recent incidents of violence across the country, raising concerns over public safety during mass gatherings.

Earlier, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) also issued traffic guidelines to manage vehicle movement in the area during the funeral.

Sharif Osman Hadi, a spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha platform, had emerged as a prominent figure in Bangladesh’s recent political developments, and his death has sparked widespread reactions at home and abroad.
