Buffalo Awami League Marks Victory Day with Liberation War Documentary Screening and Discussion

Speakers call for unity against extremism and historical distortion, reaffirm commitment to the spirit of the Liberation War

Marking the Great Victory Day, the Buffalo Awami League organized a documentary screening on the Liberation War of Bangladesh followed by a discussion meeting on Tuesday. The program highlighted the history of the 1971 Liberation War, the sacrifices of the martyrs, and called for a firm stance against anti-state conspiracies.

Freedom Fighter Commander and President of Bangabandhu Parishad USA, Dr. Nurun Nabi, attended the event as the chief guest. Special guests included freedom fighters Abu Yusuf, Sharif Hasan, and Meher Debnath. The meeting was presided over by AKM Fahim, President of the Buffalo Awami League. Leaders and activists of Awami League’s affiliated organizations were also present.

Referring to the documentary screening, speakers said that the spirit of the Liberation War is once again under attack. They alleged that extremist and reactionary forces are attempting to weaken the foundations of the state by distorting history and creating space for collaborators of 1971.

In his address, Dr. Nurun Nabi said the Liberation War is not merely a chapter of the past but an ongoing struggle. He emphasized that building organized resistance against extremism, communalism, and anti-state activities in all forms is the true way to honor Victory Day.

Speakers stressed the need for unity among expatriates to protect democracy, secularism, and the ideals of the Liberation War. In his presidential remarks, AKM Fahim said there can be no compromise on history, and those who deny the Liberation War or promote extremism must be resisted politically and morally.

The program concluded with the documentary screening aimed at educating the younger generation about the Liberation War, followed by a pledge to remain united in upholding the spirit of Victory Day.
