White House Issues Presidential Message Marking Hanukkah

President highlights religious freedom, resilience of the Jewish people, and America’s founding ideals in Festival of Lights greeting

Washington, Dec 14, 2025:
The White House on Sunday released a presidential message extending warm Hanukkah greetings to Jewish communities in the United States and around the world, emphasizing themes of religious liberty, resilience, and hope.

In the message, the President recalled the historical struggle of the Jewish people more than 2,000 years ago against tyranny and the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, a moment commemorated by the eight-day Festival of Lights. Referring to the miracle of the menorah burning for eight days with oil sufficient for only one night, the President described Hanukkah as a celebration of faith, freedom, and thanksgiving.

The statement noted that the menorah remains an enduring symbol of liberty and invoked George Washington’s words to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, affirming the right of every citizen to live and worship without fear.

Reiterating the administration’s position, the President said the government continues to stand firmly with the Jewish people and to defend the right of all believers to practice their faith freely. The message also linked the Hanukkah story to broader American ideals, describing the United States as a “shining light” sustained by faith and perseverance for nearly 250 years.

Concluding the message, the President wished peace, joy, and warmth to those observing the holiday, extending a message of unity and hope during the Hanukkah season.
