Pakistan Military Court Sentences Ex-ISI Chief Faiz Hameed to 14 Years

Ex-intelligence head convicted on charges including political involvement, breach of official secrecy, and misuse of authority

Pakistan’s former intelligence chief and retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM), the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) said in an official statement on Thursday.

According to the ISI’s public relations wing, the verdict came after more than 15 months of trial, during which Hameed faced four specific charges. These included engaging in political activities, violating official secrecy laws, endangering national security and state interests, and misusing authority and state resources, causing harm to the public.

The ISI statement noted that all charges were proven true through a “long and exhaustive judicial process.” It emphasized that Hameed was provided with every legal right and opportunity to defend himself. He also retains the right to appeal to higher military forums, should he choose to do so.

Additionally, the statement mentioned that separate allegations—such as inciting political instability—are still under investigation.

Faiz Hameed served as the Director General of ISI between 2019 and 2021 before retiring. In 2024, a prominent Pakistani real estate tycoon filed a petition in the Supreme Court accusing him of land grabbing, intimidation, and stealing valuable items during operations. The court forwarded the complaint to the military, which initiated an inquiry. Following a preliminary investigation, Hameed was arrested in August 2024.
