In a comprehensive interview with Politico, President Donald J. Trump asserted that he has restored control and stability to the United States after what he described as “the economic and border chaos” left behind by the Biden administration. As his second term approaches the one-year milestone, Trump highlighted what he considers significant progress across the economy, immigration enforcement, national security, and healthcare reform.
Trump claimed that high prices across essential sectors—particularly energy—were the result of Democratic policies, insisting that his administration is now bringing them down. “I inherited a total mess. Prices were at an all-time high when I came in,” he said, adding that affordability is improving under his leadership.
The president also pointed to what he described as an $18 trillion surge in business investment, noting that major car manufacturers, advanced AI industries, and factories are “returning to American soil.” Trump said the result will be unprecedented job creation across the United States.
On foreign policy, Trump emphasized his focus on domestic priorities even when traveling abroad, saying his efforts to reset relations with China are designed to directly benefit Americans. He reiterated his America First stance, adding: “I have no vision for Europe. All I want to see is a strong Europe. My vision is for the United States.”
Trump defended his administration’s aggressive border actions, claiming that illegal crossings and maritime drug smuggling have dropped dramatically. “Now, we have nobody coming in,” he said, accusing Democrats of ignoring the issue.
On healthcare, Trump sharply criticized Obamacare, arguing that the program enriches insurance companies at the expense of taxpayers. He vowed to redirect federal spending directly to citizens so they can purchase their own healthcare plans, blaming Democrats for resisting his proposal.
Trump also commented on the conflict in Ukraine, saying President Zelensky must adapt to the realities on the ground, as Ukraine has already lost significant territory. He expressed sorrow over the human cost of the war but insisted that diplomatic pressure is necessary.
The president concluded by accusing political opponents of weaponizing government institutions against him in previous years, framing his reelection as a rejection of what he called “vicious and corrupt” tactics.
