During his two-day visit to New Delhi, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia is ready to provide uninterrupted energy supplies to India, reaffirming Moscow’s commitment to deepening strategic and economic cooperation with New Delhi. He also highlighted Russia’s assistance in building India’s largest nuclear power plant at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu.
Focus on Economic Cooperation
At the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit held at Hyderabad House, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Putin discussed key aspects of bilateral cooperation.
Both sides finalized a 2030 roadmap for economic partnership.
India will open two new embassies in Russia, and new tourism visa arrangements were announced.
Multiple MoUs were signed covering shipbuilding, polar region training, new shipping routes, and civilian nuclear energy.
Modi: “India Stands for Peace” on Ukraine Issue
Speaking at the joint press briefing, Prime Minister Modi said India has been consistent in supporting “a long-term and peaceful solution” to the Ukraine crisis.
He emphasized that India is not neutral, but “stands on the side of peace,” and will support all global peace initiatives.
Putin: Trade in Local Currencies, Stronger Energy Partnership
President Putin highlighted the strengthening of bilateral trade, including transactions in ruble and Indian rupee.
He said Russia is prepared to ensure continuous energy supply to India despite international pressure, and reaffirmed support for India’s nuclear energy expansion.
At Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant:Two units are already operational, Four more units are under construction.
Putin added that cooperation is also expanding into small modular reactors, floating nuclear plants, and nuclear technology for medicine and agriculture.
