Kylian Mbappe delivered a brilliant performance to steer Real Madrid to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, ending the Spanish giants’ three-match winless run in LaLiga.
The win keeps Real Madrid firmly in second place with 36 points from 15 matches, just one point behind league leaders Barcelona.
Real made a flying start as Mbappe opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Receiving a long ball near midfield, he powered past two defenders before curling a sensational strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Madrid doubled their advantage moments before halftime. After a composed build-up, Trent Alexander-Arnold sent a precise cross to the far post. Mbappe headed the ball back across goal, allowing Eduardo Camavinga to nod home from close range.
Although Real slowed the tempo in the second half, Mbappe remained unstoppable. In the 59th minute, noticing Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon slightly out of position, he unleashed another curling effort from outside the area to seal the victory.
The result marks a timely boost for Carlo Ancelotti’s side as they continue their chase for the league title.
