Mild Earthquake Jolts Dhaka Early Morning

No casualties reported; epicentre located in Narsingdi’s Shibpur

Dhaka, Bangladesh — A mild earthquake shook Dhaka and several nearby districts early Thursday morning, prompting residents to momentarily rush outdoors in fear.

According to preliminary data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake struck at 6:14 am with a magnitude of 4.1 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was recorded in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi district, approximately 30 kilometres from the capital.

Residents in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, and parts of Narsingdi reported brief but noticeable tremors. However, no significant damage or casualties have been reported so far.

This latest jolt follows a series of mild tremors recorded over the past two weeks, after a more powerful 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck on November 21, causing widespread structural damage and multiple casualties across several districts. Experts believe continued aftershocks are possible in the coming days.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious but not panic, adding that monitoring systems are actively tracking seismic activity in the region.
