Hasina’s Leaked Audio Reignites Debate Over Pilkhana Mutiny Findings

Former prime minister alleges targeted killings, questions key investigators, and accuses the interim government of political persecution in a viral audio clip.

In a newly surfaced clip, the former prime minister of Bangladesh alleges targeted killings in the 2009 Pilkhana massacre, questions the role of key officials, and criticizes the interim government.

A leaked audio clip of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has gone viral on social media, sparking fresh political controversy. In the recording, she makes a series of explosive claims about the 2009 Pilkhana massacre (BDR mutiny), the current interim government, and the role of officials involved in the original investigation.

She asserts that 46 of the army officers killed during the mutiny came from Awami League families and accuses the current Home Affairs Adviser, Lt Gen (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, of “overturning” his own findings.

Majority of Victims Were from Awami League Families

In the clip, Hasina says her government brought the BDR mutiny under control within 72 hours. “Among the army officers who were killed—from DG Shakil onwards—46 were from Awami League families,” she claims.

She adds that many of the slain officers, including close relatives of senior Awami League leaders, had been personally appointed by her to the PGR and SSF.

Questions Over Adviser Jahangir Alam’s Role

Hasina sharply criticizes Lt Gen (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, who chaired the original BDR mutiny investigation.

“You were the chairman of the committee that investigated the killings. Based on your report, the trials and sentences took place. Now as head of the new commission, you are reversing everything,” she says. She argues that if the initial investigation was flawed, Jahangir himself must bear responsibility.

Criticism Directed at Former BDR Chief Fazlur Rahman

The former prime minister also targets ex–BDR Director General Maj Gen (Retd.) Fazlur Rahman, who is now involved in the reinvestigation. She recalls a past incident in which an Indian BSF member was killed along the border, claiming that Fazlur Rahman “panicked” when India reacted strongly. Hasina says she personally spoke to then–Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to defuse the situation and “save his life.”

Allegations Against Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman

Hasina questions the actions of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on the morning of the mutiny.

“Why did Khaleda Zia leave her house at 6 AM? Because Tarique Rahman called her 45 times from London and told her to leave,” she alleges, questioning why this angle was never investigated.

Interim Government Targeting Awami League

The former prime minister accuses the interim government of releasing convicts from major terror cases—including the Holey Artisan attack and the August 21 grenade attack—while overcrowding jails with Awami League leaders and activists.

“We never took revenge,” she says. “But today our leaders and workers are facing brutal persecution.”

Dhanmondi-32 Arson and ‘Attack on Bangabandhu’s Legacy’

Hasina also addresses the burning of the historic Dhanmondi-32 residence. She names a Jubo Dal leader, Roman Hawlader, as being involved and condemns the subsequent bulldozing of the site.

“If the Father of the Nation had not liberated the country, Ziaur Rahman or others could never have become major generals,” she says. “Yet now alliances are being made with those who committed genocide.”

Hasina in Exile; Authenticity of Audio Unverified

Sheikh Hasina has been living in India since August 5, after a mass student–citizen uprising forced her to flee the country. Since then, multiple audio clips attributed to her have surfaced online, fueling political debate.

However, the authenticity and timing of the latest leak have not been independently verified. Give headline and subhead
