Sheikh Hasina Calls on Students to Unite for the Restoration of Democracy

Student community urged to lead the fight against repression, uphold human rights, and reclaim the nation’s democratic future

Awami League President and exiled Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the student community to unite in a determined struggle to restore democracy, uphold human rights, and reestablish the rule of law by ending the current “usurper regime” in Bangladesh.

During a views-exchange meeting with leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Sheikh Hasina emphasized that today’s students must take the lead in safeguarding democracy and justice.

“The BCL has embraced this directive as a guiding principle of their movement. Her call has drawn a new roadmap for the nation’s youth,” the organization said in a statement.

The statement notes that in a country where students’ voices are silenced, teachers humiliated, and the rule of law trampled, the Chhatra League has once again stepped forward to break the darkness and restore light.

Responding to the Prime Minister’s call, the nation’s students have pledged that no intimidation or repression will stop them from returning the rightful privileges, dignity, safety, and future to every student in Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina also stressed that those who suffered expulsions, certificate cancellations, or other injustices under the “tyrannical system” must have their student identity, dignity, and future restored. The Chhatra League has accepted this as both a moral duty and a political commitment.

She urged the youth to become more refined, modern, cultured, and responsible, and expressed her deep commitment to ensuring respect and protection for teachers. The Chhatra League affirmed that it will uphold this directive with loyalty and sincerity.

She further appealed for solidarity with general students in their moments of fear, struggle, and hope. The Chhatra League declared that the strength of general students is the foundation of their movement and that ensuring their safety, dignity, and a prosperous future is their goal.

While highlighting the current state of misrule, Sheikh Hasina pointed out that even an eighth-grade boy is now being arrested unlawfully, his future taken away. Meanwhile, individuals long associated with militant groups disguised themselves as Chhatra League members and freely roamed educational institutions, continuing their studies while tarnishing the organization’s reputation.

She said these infiltrators have now been exposed and more truths will soon emerge. The Chhatra League vowed to intensify efforts to purge campuses and the organization of these conspirators.

“The Prime Minister’s call,” they stated, “makes it clear that this struggle is not a traditional movement but one to restore the democratic dignity of the nation, protect human rights, and ensure good governance.”

Therefore, the Chhatra League declared that every march, slogan, demonstration, and movement will reflect Bangabandhu’s ideals and Sheikh Hasina’s directives.

They reaffirmed their historic role as the guiding torch of the nation—always leading the fight for nation-building, human aspirations, and democracy.

They expressed firm belief that under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, the fight to restore democracy will end in victory.

According to the statement, Sheikh Hasina’s instructions have become the central force behind the people’s movement against the “illegitimate regime.” She asserted that the current fascist and murderous government must be removed so that power can be restored to a democratically elected government.

The Chhatra League declared that neither the Awami League nor the people will accept any sham election staged by an unlawful government. They vowed an uncompromising struggle against anti-democratic conspirators, with students at the forefront.

The organization stated that the battle to end repression in campuses and across the nation is now essential for saving the future generation, and the Chhatra League has taken responsibility to lead from the front.

Following Sheikh Hasina’s directive, the Bangladesh Chhatra League declared that its movement will not stop until democracy is restored, human rights are ensured, and the rule of law revived.

“We will not stop, retreat, or tire,” they said, affirming that the Prime Minister’s call is their strength, courage, and moral foundation. Under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, the youth of Bangladesh pledges to bring the country back to light.
