Adverse Weather Prompts Emergency Visa Notice from Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Issues Emergency Visa Notice Amid Adverse Weather

Due to severe weather conditions, Sri Lanka’s Department of Immigration has issued an emergency notice regarding visas for foreign nationals. The Sri Lankan High Commission in Dhaka announced in a press release on Saturday night (29 November) that special visa assistance has been arranged for foreigners affected by the weather-related disruptions.

According to the Immigration Department, foreigners who were scheduled to leave Sri Lanka on or after 28 November but were unable to do so due to flight cancellations or travel disruptions caused by the adverse weather will be exempted from visa extension fees and overstay penalties. This measure aims to support travelers who have faced unavoidable delays.

Additionally, short-term tourist or business visa holders, as well as residence visa holders, will receive a seven-day grace period to complete their visa extension formalities.

Short-term tourist visas can be extended through the Immigration Department’s online portal.

The department also stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates if necessary.
