Top Zelensky Aide Resigns After Corruption Raid on His Home

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky announced late Friday (28 November) that his Chief of Staff, Andriy Yermak, has resigned.

Earlier, two of Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies conducted a search at Yermak’s residence following corruption allegations.

Recently, alarming information surfaced about large-scale embezzlement involving individuals close to Zelensky. According to reports, several trusted aides and ministers allegedly siphoned off 100 million dollars from the energy sector. At a time when ordinary people are suffering due to energy shortages, the revelation of such massive theft sparked widespread public outrage.

Although no direct evidence has been found linking Andriy Yermak to the embezzlement, he has still come under suspicion. His home was searched as part of the investigation.

Yermak has long been considered the second most powerful person in Ukraine, with influence across nearly all sectors. He was also the chief negotiator representing Ukraine in efforts to end the war.

According to BBC, the scandal in the energy sector has significantly weakened Zelensky’s political standing. At a time when peace talks with the United States are at a critical stage, the corruption revelations have placed the negotiations at risk.

Following Yermak’s resignation, President Zelensky will now appoint a new chief negotiator.
