The death toll from a weeklong spell of floods and landslides on Indonesia’s Sumatra island has risen to 174, while at least 42 people remain missing. The country’s disaster management agency BNPB confirmed the figures on Friday, according to a report by the British news agency Reuters.

BNPB chief Suharyanto, who goes by a single name, said 116 deaths have been reported so far across North Sumatra province, and 42 people are still unaccounted for.

He added that 35 more people have died in Aceh province, and 23 fatalities have been recorded in West Sumatra.

The nationwide flood and landslide situation remains critical. Rescue teams are continuing their operations to locate those still missing.
