The United States, under President Donald Trump’s administration, is close to introducing a new visa category known as the “Gold Card Visa,” designed for wealthy individuals who can provide significant financial benefits to the country.
According to Indian news outlet NDTV, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has submitted a draft of Form I-140G to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review. If approved, the new visa category could be launched as early as December 18.
Often referred to as the “Trump Gold Card,” the visa targets individuals who can offer “significant benefit” to the United States.
Who Is Eligible?
Only those who can demonstrate substantial benefit to the U.S. will qualify for the visa. Applicants must provide:
A non-refundable application fee
All required documents on time
A mandatory investment or financial gift of USD 1 million to the U.S. Treasury upon visa approval
Equivalent to more than BDT 12.26 crore
The Trump administration says this investment or gift will serve as proof that the applicant can contribute meaningfully to the United States. Approved applicants will receive lawful permanent residency. However, visas will be denied if national security risks or other red flags are identified.
For corporate-sponsored applicants, the required contribution increases to USD 2 million, with an application fee of USD 15,000, which is also non-refundable.
How to Apply
Applicants must apply through the U.S. Department of Commerce and pay the USD 15,000 application fee via Pay.gov. They must also prove that their income and assets come from legitimate sources. The U.S. government will conduct detailed background checks focusing on:
Criminal history
Evidence of money laundering or financial misconduct
National security risks
Income tax records
Bank statements
Cryptocurrency holdings
If approved, applicants outside the U.S. must complete the permanent residency process at a U.S. embassy. Those already inside the country may be allowed to adjust their status, though regulations for this pathway are still being finalized.
