US officials are voicing deep concern over a previously undisclosed meeting in Miami involving representatives from the Trump administration—among them Jared Kushner—and sanctioned Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev. The meeting reportedly focused on a controversial 28-point “Ukraine peace plan” that heavily favours Moscow’s strategic interests.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the plan would require Ukraine to cede portions of its territory, formally recognise Crimea as part of Russia, and pledge not to pursue NATO membership. The proposals have sparked confusion within parts of the US administration and raised questions about the motives behind such discussions, which bypassed traditional diplomatic channels.
Current and former officials warn that the backchannel effort appears to align closely with Kremlin objectives, reigniting fears about foreign influence and unauthorised policymaking during the Trump era.
