A group of BNP activists vandalized the home of Bangladesh’s former President Md. Abdul Hamid in Kishoreganj’s Mithamain upazila on Monday night. The attack occurred around 11 PM when a victory procession by local BNP leaders entered the premises and broke the main gate, windows, and furniture.
According to police and eyewitnesses, about 60 to 70 BNP supporters were celebrating the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict sentencing Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death. A faction of the rally participants stormed the former president’s residence in the absence of its occupants.
Duty Officer Al Momen of Mithamain Police Station confirmed the incident and said law enforcement quickly intervened and brought the situation under control. No one has been arrested yet, and no complaints have been formally lodged.
Police and army personnel have since been deployed around the house to prevent further unrest.
