Public University 1001 Teachers Reject ‘Mock Verdict’ Against Sheikh Hasina

In a strongly worded statement, 1001 progressive teachers from Bangladesh’s public universities condemn the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict against Sheikh Hasina as “fabricated, orchestrated, and politically motivated,” calling it an assault on justice and national dignity.

A group of 1001 progressive teachers from public universities across Bangladesh have strongly rejected the verdict issued by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against Sheikh Hasina, describing it as “false, fabricated, and politically motivated.” In a statement released to the media on Saturday, they said the verdict represents a direct attack on justice and a deep insult to the people of Bangladesh.

Tribunal Termed ‘Kangaroo Court’ by Academics

In their statement, the teachers criticized the ICT for transforming into a “kangaroo court” marked by authoritarianism, bias, and a departure from the principles of justice. They accused the tribunal of accepting false testimony, fabricated evidence, and politically driven motives, instead of adhering to proper legal standards.

According to the teachers, the verdict against Sheikh Hasina — the former Prime Minister and President of the Awami League — will stand as a shameful chapter in the history of the country’s judicial system.

‘Conspiratorial Verdict Already Rejected by the Masses’

The statement further said:
“The people of this country, inspired by the ideals of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, understand that this verdict is vengeful, conspiratorial, and premeditated. The masses have already rejected this mockery of justice.”

They argued that the verdict is not merely an attack on Sheikh Hasina, but on Bangladesh’s independence, the spirit of the Liberation War, and the dignity of the nation.

Teachers Declare Solidarity with the People

In the concluding part of the statement, the 1001 teachers affirmed:
“We, the progressive academic community, stand firmly with the people. We reject this kangaroo court’s disgraceful and politically driven verdict with the utmost contempt.”
