The Bangladesh Awami League has issued a statement on Thursday (13 November 2025) calling upon its leaders, activists, and citizens to remain alert against what it describes as “a conspiracy by illegal occupiers and their accomplices” amid the ongoing Dhaka Lockdown programme.
According to the statement, the Awami League announced the lockdown as part of a democratic and peaceful political movement to protest what it called the “unlawful occupation and repressive rule of killer-fascist Yunus and his gang.” The party alleged that the current authorities have unlawfully stripped its leaders and members of their democratic and human rights, while subjecting them to “false and harassment-driven cases” through a “mockery of justice.”
“The Awami League knows how to fight for its rights through struggle and movement,” the statement read, asserting that people across the country have shown “unprecedented support” for the lockdown programme. The party claimed that the strong public response has left the “illegal occupiers deeply frightened.”
The statement further accused the government and its allies of staging violent incidents and acts of sabotage in an attempt to blame the Awami League and undermine the success of its movement. It stated that “there is no evidence” of Awami League activists being involved in any violence, adding that law enforcement and intelligence agencies have instead been detaining activists from their homes and fabricating cases of sabotage against them.
Citing media reports, the party claimed that some violent incidents were carried out under “the tacit support of the administration.”
Calling for restraint and discipline, the Awami League urged its members to continue the Dhaka Lockdown peacefully while upholding the spontaneous support of the people. The statement concluded with a vow to continue the struggle “until the rights of the people are restored.”
