In a heated political message, Sajeeb Wazed Joy—son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her advisor on information and communication technology—has termed the current interim government “illegal” and “supported by collaborators,” calling for a nationwide shutdown and particularly a blockade of Dhaka on the 13th. In a video statement, he urged everyone to unite and take to the streets to bring down what he called an “illegal government” and save the country.
In the video message, Sajeeb Wazed Joy said, “You all know that for the past one and a half years this illegal Yunus government has forcibly seized power. They have destroyed our economy, there is no law and order, and they have released militants from prison.”
He accused the government of trying to erase the spirit and history of the Liberation War and handing the country over to “Jamaat-backed collaborators.” Joy added, “Now the collaborators are in power. They are trying to illegally change laws and unjustly convict Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, in false cases.”
Announcing the final program to overcome the situation, he said, “On the 13th—day after tomorrow—we have called for a Dhaka blockade. You must make this blockade successful.”
He urged people from all walks of life to participate spontaneously, saying, “None of you should go to work. Students should avoid classes. Keep shops, buses, rickshaws—everything—closed.”
Addressing the law enforcement agencies, Joy said, “This government is illegal—completely illegal. Do not persecute our leaders and activists.” He reminded them that this government has also killed members of the law enforcement forces, with no justice served.
Calling on the public to remain fearless, he added, “They are trying to suppress by force, but there is nothing to fear. If you stay at home, they won’t be able to harm you.”
Referring to the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War, he said, “We won the struggle of ’71 through war. We will succeed in this movement too. We must stand together to save Bangladesh.” His strong message and direct call for a blockade have escalated political tension across the country.
