Rohit Sharma has been rewarded for his outstanding batting performance in the ODI series against Australia. With innings of 73 and an unbeaten 121 in the second and third ODIs respectively, he has climbed to the top of the ICC ODI batting rankings for the first time in his career.
Having been a regular in the top ten for more than a decade, Rohit has now surpassed Ibrahim Zadran and Shubman Gill. His century in particular played a key role in boosting his rating points and taking him to the No. 1 spot. Although India lost the series 2–1, Rohit’s performance stood out.
Alongside Rohit, all-rounder Axar Patel also shone. He took three wickets across the three matches and played two valuable innings of 31 and 44 runs. Thanks to his performance, he has jumped six places to reach 31st among bowlers and moved up four places to 8th among all-rounders.
Meanwhile, in the bowlers’ ranking, New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner climbed three spots to 4th place after the first two ODIs against England. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood has also moved up two places and is now 8th.
