Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has declared that no national election will be permitted in Bangladesh without participation from the country’s oldest political party, the Awami League, and the Jatiya Party. He alleged that a conspiracy is underway to exclude the Jatiya Party, which he said would only benefit Jamaat-e-Islami.
He made these comments on Thursday afternoon at a discussion held in front of the party’s central office in Kakrail, Dhaka, marking Upazila Day.
Quader said the current government is attempting to lead the nation toward civil war and that Bangladesh has never witnessed such a deteriorated law-and-order situation in its history.
Addressing the gathering, Jatiya Party Secretary General Shamim Haider Patwary said the lack of national consensus is deepening divisions within the country. He alleged that the government intends to control the upcoming election and insisted that a free and fair vote is impossible under its supervision.
Patwary reiterated the demand for a non-partisan or all-party caretaker government to ensure a credible election process and warned that the Jatiya Party would resist any attempt to hold an election without its participation.
