Amir Khasru Calls for Religious Harmony During Durga Puja

BNP leader stresses unity beyond religious boundaries, says party does not practice religion-based politics

CHATTOGRAM, Sept. 30, 2025 — Senior BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has underscored the importance of honoring all faiths and fostering unity across Bangladesh’s diverse communities.

Speaking on Monday night during a visit to the Barik Building Ekta Group Puja Mandap, the BNP National Standing Committee member highlighted that his party “does not engage in politics based on religion” and is committed to ensuring that no division arises from religious differences.

“Religion should never be a tool of politics,” Amir Khasru remarked, stressing that social cohesion requires mutual respect and collective celebration.

Durga Puja as Cultural Heritage

The BNP leader emphasized that Saradiya Durga Puja transcends religious boundaries and represents a vital part of the country’s cultural fabric. Reflecting on his own experiences, he said he has celebrated the festival since childhood alongside friends and neighbors of different backgrounds.

“Durga Puja is not only a religious occasion; it is a universal festival, deeply rooted in our culture. Its joyous spirit unites us all,” he told devotees gathered at the mandap, extending greetings to all communities.

Engagement with Local Communities

Alongside Advocate Kamrul Islam Sajjad, General Secretary of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum, BNP leader Nurul Amin, and Liton Chowdhury Babu, President of the Ekta Group Puja Udjapan Parishad, Amir Khasru joined in the festive atmosphere and encouraged continued interfaith solidarity.

Later in the evening, he visited the South Kattoli Hari Temple and the Kali Temple, where the Sharadiya Durga Puja was in full swing. At each venue, he conveyed his greetings and reinforced his message of religious inclusivity.

The events were attended by several senior BNP figures, including City BNP Joint Convener Manjur Alam and BNP leader Abul Hashem Bakkar, along with other local leaders who accompanied Amir Khasru in extending festive greetings.
