Police Arrest 30 in Dhaka Amid Awami League Processions

Authorities recover crude bombs as police move to disperse flash processions in Farmgate and Tejgaon; DMP vows tighter security.

Police have arrested 30 people from flash processions organized by the Bangladesh Awami League and its affiliated bodies in the Farmgate and Tejgaon areas of the capital.

Four crude bombs, locally known as cocktails, were also recovered during the operation. The arrests were made on Wednesday afternoon, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) chief Md. Shafiqul Islam.

“So far, 30 people have been detained, and four cocktails have been recovered. The operation is still ongoing, and further details will be provided once it concludes,” he said.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman stated that several police teams quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Four cocktails were recovered from in front of the Water Development Board building.

He further informed that DMP Additional Police Commissioner S.N. Md. Nazrul Islam will brief the media in detail about the incident at a press conference at the DMP Media Center later in the afternoon.

According to police, the sabotage was carried out with the intention of creating political instability. Additional police forces have been deployed at the scene.

Meanwhile, Awami League activists also brought out a procession in the Gulistan area earlier on Wednesday noon.
