UK MP Tulip Siddiq Rejects “Fake” Bangladeshi Documents Amid Corruption Prob

Labour politician says Dhaka authorities are targeting her with fabricated identity papers in politically motivated campaign.

Labour MP and former minister Tulip Siddiq has accused Bangladeshi authorities of attempting to smear her with “fake” documents suggesting she held a Bangladeshi passport and national identity card. The claim contradicts her previous statements and comes as she faces scrutiny in an ongoing corruption case in Bangladesh.

The investigation alleges Siddiq used her influence to help her aunt secure land plots for her immediate family members, including her mother, brother and sister. Supporters fear that the emergence of these documents could be used to strengthen the case against her.

A spokesman for Siddiq told The Daily Telegraph that the allegations were baseless. “For nearly a year, the Bangladeshi authorities have pursued a politically motivated smear campaign against Tulip Siddiq,” the spokesman said.
