Washington, D.C., September 16, 2025 –
President Donald J. Trump has submitted the 2026 “Major’s List” to Congress, naming 23 countries that are major sources or transit routes for illicit drugs entering the United States.
According to the State Department, five countries—Afghanistan, Bolivia, Burma (Myanmar), Colombia, and Venezuela—were determined to have “failed demonstrably to make substantial efforts” to combat drug production and trafficking.
The determination calls on these governments to strengthen their counternarcotics policies and cooperation with international partners.
The White House said these countries pose a direct threat to the safety and security of the American people by producing and trafficking illicit drugs and precursor chemicals.
“The Trump administration is committed to using every tool at our disposal to hold these countries accountable and to keep dangerous drugs from flooding our communities,” the statement read, citing the Office of National Drug Control Policy’s (ONDCP) efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks.
The “Major’s List” is issued annually and is part of the U.S. strategy to combat global drug trafficking.
