Dhaka, September 16, 2025: Four Awami League worker were reportedly freed using grenade-like explosives after being detained during a rally in Shyamoli, Dhaka.
According to police, on Tuesday around 11 AM at Shishu Mela Mor, a group of five to six workers was detained while participating in a rally heading toward Agargaon. Suddenly, another team of 25–30 motorcyclists—acting as a ‘backup team’—threw explosives and freed the detained workers. Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station OC Md.
Imamul Haque said, “We were present at the site while preparations for the rally were ongoing. Immediately after some were detained, the backup team arrived, detonated explosives, and pulled the detained workers away. However, police were able to arrest six members of the backup team along with a motorcycle.”
The incident triggered tensions in the area, prompting the deployment of additional police forces.
On the same day, Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra League held a protest rally in Motijheel demanding the resignation of the “fascist Yunus government.” Protesters carried placards and chanted slogans such as “Sheikh Hasina will come, Bangladesh will smile” and “No fear of Sheikh Hasina, we won’t leave the streets,” filling the streets with protest energy.
Chhatra League leaders said that BNP-aligned activists had attacked their rally the previous day, prompting the demonstration.
Earlier in the morning, Daudkandi Upazila Awami League and allied organizations held a protest rally on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway against the Yunus government, chanting “Sheikh Hasina will come, Bangladesh will smile.”
Another rally, held on Saturday, September 13, began in front of Bangladesh Betar in Agargaon, organized by Awami League, Swechasebak League, Chhatra League, and other groups.
Around a thousand participants carried banners, festoons, and placards, chanting slogans such as “Sheikh Hasina,” “Joy Bangla,” “Joy Bangabandhu,” and “Sheikh Hasina will come, streets will tremble,” energizing the area with protest activity.
