Chattogram, Sept. 10, 2025 — Leaders and activists of the Awami League and its student wing, the Chhatra League, staged a sudden flash procession in the Agrabad area of Chattogram on Wednesday morning, despite the ongoing suspension of their political activities.
A short video clip of the procession surfaced on social media later in the afternoon, quickly drawing public attention. Police said they were unable to confirm the exact time of the rally but have launched a drive to identify and arrest those involved.
The footage shows around a dozen activists marching along the port-bound road in Agrabad, chanting slogans and carrying a banner. The banner read: “Sheikh Hasina will return, victory will come” — with the names of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League written underneath.
Police confirmed the incident occurred near the boundary between Bandar Police Station and Double Mooring Police Station. According to officials, the march lasted no longer than 30 seconds before participants dispersed.
Babul Azad, Officer-in-Charge of Double Mooring Police Station, said, “We are analyzing the video footage and working to identify the individuals involved. A drive is underway to arrest them.”
Political analysts say the sudden appearance of Awami League and Chhatra League activists is significant, as the interim government, which came to power in August, has banned all party activities. Still, sporadic demonstrations have continued, signaling efforts by loyalists to reassert their presence on the streets.
Local residents reported that the procession caused a brief traffic disruption in Agrabad but quickly subsided. Observers argue that such symbolic protests are intended to send a message of defiance and maintain support for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who resigned earlier this year amid mass protests.
