President Donald J. Trump marked National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month with a strong pledge to defeat the nation’s addiction crisis.
In a presidential message released Tuesday, Trump emphasized both compassion for Americans struggling with addiction and decisive action to stop the deadly drug trade.
“Every day, drug and alcohol addiction shatters families, destabilizes neighborhoods, derails careers, and steals the lives of countless Americans,” Trump said. He reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to “standing alongside every person struggling with the heavy burdens of addiction—and to supporting their path to total and complete recovery with compassion, clarity, and resolve.”
The President announced a $44 billion federal investment into prevention, treatment, and recovery programs. Key initiatives include strengthening the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program and the Drug-Free Communities Program, giving local leaders more tools to fight addiction at the community level.
At the same time, Trump highlighted his Administration’s aggressive efforts to shut down the “deadly pipeline” of fentanyl and other illegal drugs at America’s borders. He vowed to dismantle drug cartels, take down lethal networks, and bring traffickers to justice with the “full force of American power.”
The message also stressed prevention, particularly among children, along with quick access to treatment and the promotion of healthy living through the Make America Healthy Again Commission.
“Though addiction is a disease, recovery is achievable,” Trump said. “With love, determination, and support, millions of Americans are breaking free and building bright, beautiful futures. We will continue this fight until every American can live free from addiction and enjoy long, healthy, and hopeful lives.”
