Since Israel launched its war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, at least 63,557 Palestinians have been killed. On Monday, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that another nine people — including three children — recently died of starvation.
In the past 24 hours alone, 98 bodies were brought to hospitals and 404 people were injured, raising the total number of wounded since the war began to 160,660. The ministry noted that many victims remain trapped under rubble or lie dead in the streets, beyond the reach of rescuers.
Humanitarian aid distribution has become increasingly deadly. Israeli forces opened fire on crowds waiting for assistance, killing 46 Palestinians and injuring more than 239 in a single day. Since May 27, at least 2,294 people have been killed and 16,839 injured while seeking aid.
Starvation is also worsening. A total of 348 people — including 127 children — have died from hunger or malnutrition since October 2023. Israel fully sealed Gaza’s borders on March 2, leaving the enclave’s 2.4 million residents facing famine.
A UN-backed assessment has already confirmed famine in northern Gaza and warned it could spread further south by the end of September.
Since resuming major attacks on March 18, Israeli forces have killed at least 11,426 people and injured 48,619, shattering the ceasefire and prisoner-exchange agreement that began earlier this year.
International legal bodies have taken action. In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
At the same time, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is hearing a genocide case against Israel over its actions in Gaza.
