BCL Condemns Murder of Bhola Leader, Demands Justice

Arif was targeted solely because of his active involvement in student politics. The organization described the incident as a “planned political assassination.”

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has expressed deep shock and outrage over the brutal killing of Md. Saifullah Arif, Vice-President of the organization’s Sadar Upazila unit in Bhola district.

According to the victim’s family, unidentified assailants lured Arif out of his home late at night and later killed him by repeatedly striking his head and body with hammers. Arif, who had been in hiding for the past six months, had returned home briefly to visit his ailing father. That visit, the BCL alleged, was turned into a deadly trap by his killers.

In a statement, the BCL claimed that Arif was targeted solely because of his active involvement in student politics. The organization described the incident as a “planned political assassination.”

“We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Shaheed Arif,” the statement read.

The BCL further alleged that under what it called the “illegal and unconstitutional Yunus regime,” leaders and activists of the student body have increasingly become victims of indiscriminate repression, imprisonment, and killings.

“This tragic loss is yet another addition to the ongoing cycle of political violence. The current situation has deprived the nation of an environment where justice can be sought,” the statement said.

Pledging to transform grief into strength, the BCL vowed to continue its movement until what it described as the “oppressive regime” is brought to an end, asserting that only then would Arif’s sacrifice be honored.
