Israel Launches Airstrikes on Yemen’s Capital Sana’a

Israel has launched fresh airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, on Thursday (August 28), with multiple explosions reported across the city.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attacks but did not specify which locations were targeted. An Al Jazeera correspondent in Sana’a reported that Israeli warplanes struck Attan Mountain, a vast area that separates the city from its rural surroundings. At least ten explosions were heard.

The strikes came shortly after Yemen’s Houthi rebels sent two drones toward Israel, which the IDF claimed to have intercepted and destroyed. The Houthis, who say their actions are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, have also restricted Israeli shipping movements in the Red Sea and regularly launch missiles and drones at Israeli targets.

The latest escalation underscores the widening regional dimensions of the Gaza conflict, drawing in actors far beyond Palestinian territory.
