Washington, D.C. — August 26, 2025
President Donald J. Trump on Tuesday issued a statement commemorating Women’s Equality Day, marking 105 years since the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed American women the constitutional right to vote.
Trump hailed the amendment’s certification as a “defining moment” in the nation’s pursuit of equality and liberty. Citing its historic text — “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged… on account of sex” — he said the milestone “forever changed the course of history.”
“This Women’s Equality Day, our Nation proudly celebrates the timeless truth that every American citizen is created in the holy image of God and endowed with certain unalienable rights,” his statement read.
The president praised the suffragists and reformers who fought for the right to vote, calling them “strong, patriotic American trailblazers.” He added that August 26, 1920, remains an “enduring reminder of America’s promise of freedom and equality.”
Trump also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting liberty and ensuring equal justice “for generations to come.”
First designated in 1971, Women’s Equality Day is observed annually to honor the progress of women’s rights and to recognize the ongoing pursuit of gender equality in the United States.
