NEW DELHI – India’s federal investigation bureau has filed a criminal case against Anil Ambani, the younger brother of Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, officials confirmed on Aug 24.
The case, registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), reportedly relates to alleged financial irregularities, though details of the charges have not yet been made public. Investigators are examining whether there were violations in dealings linked to Anil Ambani’s now-collapsed business ventures, which once spanned telecoms, infrastructure, and finance.
While Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries has expanded into energy, retail, and digital services, his younger brother’s Reliance Group has faced mounting debt and legal battles over the past decade. The contrast between their fortunes has long been seen as one of India’s most striking business divides.
Neither Anil Ambani nor representatives of his Reliance Group immediately responded to requests for comment. The CBI also declined to provide further information, citing the ongoing investigation.
The case marks a fresh chapter of legal challenges for the Ambani family, whose business empire has shaped India’s economy for decades.
