Dastagir Jahangir Honored with Bangabandhu Medal for Courageous Journalism

Michigan, August 21, 2025: Expatriate journalist and editor of TheVoice, Dastagir Jahangir, has been awarded the Bangabandhu Medal by the Michigan chapter of Bangabandhu Parishad in recognition of his courageous journalism.

He received the honor for presenting news with integrity, and courage during Bangladesh’s political crisis. The medal was handed over to him on Wednesday evening (August 20 local time) at a memorial event in Detroit, Michigan, marking the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished community members, political leaders, cultural activists, and expatriate journalists, says a press release.

Recognition for Courageous Journalism

With more than two decades of experience in journalism, Dastagir Jahangir has been consistently covering news from the U.S. State Department and the White House. He has regularly highlighted Washington’s stance on political and human rights issues in South Asia, particularly concerning Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan, through international media outlets.

Even while living in USA, he has written extensively about democracy, human rights, elections, and the problems faced by Bangladeshi expatriates. Alongside journalism, he is also well known as a columnist and writer, with his works frequently published in various renowned newspapers and magazines at home and abroad.
