Dastagir Jahangir Honored with Bangabandhu Medal for Courageous Journalism

The Voice editor and expatriate journalist recognized in Michigan for fearless reporting on Bangladesh’s political crises.

Michigan, August 21, 2025:
Dastagir Jahangir, editor of The Voice and an expatriate journalist, has been awarded the Bangabandhu Medal for courageous journalism. The Bangabandhu Parishad Michigan Chapter honored him in recognition of his impartial and fearless reporting during times of political crisis and hardship in Bangladesh.

The medal was presented on Wednesday (August 21) evening at a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of National Mourning Day, August 15.

The event’s chief guest was none other than Dastagir Jahangir himself, who is also the president of the Bangabandhu Parishad Washington chapter and editor of The Voice. The program was presided over by Ahad Ahmed and conducted by Ali Ahmed.

Discussions at the event centered on the significance of August 5, August 15, and August 21. Leaders of the Awami League and Bangabandhu Parishad present raised various questions concerning Washington, D.C., Bangladesh, and the upcoming elections. Dastagir Jahangir responded to these queries, offering analytical opinions on Bangladesh’s current situation.

Former Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Abul Momen and Bangabandhu Parishad California president Nazrul Islam joined the event virtually.

Notably, Dastagir Jahangir is currently residing in Detroit, Michigan. He has been engaging with local expatriate Bangladeshis on journalism and Bangladesh’s political landscape.

Among others present at the event were Faruk Ahmed, former General Secretary of Ward No. 21 of Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League Javed Siraj, Sultan Sharif, Shah Sebul, Md. Sayedul Haque, Imran Hasan Imran, Rumman Imane Chowdhury Evan, Mohammad Abdul Quddus, Syed Matiur Rahman, and Tahmid Hasan Chowdhury.
