New Delhi, Aug 21 — India has once again reaffirmed its “time-tested” friendship with Russia, highlighting the enduring strength of their bilateral partnership amid shifting global dynamics. The message comes through a series of high-profile visits by top Indian officials to Moscow.
Just two weeks ago, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held wide-ranging talks in Russia on defense and security cooperation. Following that, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Moscow this week for discussions with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, signaling New Delhi’s intention to keep the strategic dialogue active at the highest levels.
The two sides discussed defense, energy, and connectivity projects, while also exchanging views on global challenges, including the Ukraine conflict. India reiterated that its relationship with Moscow remains anchored in “mutual trust and strategic convergence,” even as it strengthens ties with the United States and other Western partners.
New Delhi continues to describe its partnership with Russia as “special and privileged,” pointing to decades of collaboration in defense production, nuclear energy, and space exploration. The reaffirmation comes at a time when Russia faces increasing isolation from the West, while India seeks to balance its independent foreign policy interests.
Analysts say the back-to-back visits of Ajit Doval and S. Jaishankar demonstrate India’s resolve to sustain its longstanding ties with Moscow, particularly in the fields of defense supplies and energy imports. At the same time, the outreach highlights India’s bid to maintain strategic autonomy in an increasingly polarized global order.
