Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was assaulted at her official residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines on Wednesday morning, police said. One person has been arrested in connection with the attack.
According to Firstpost, Gupta was conducting a public grievance session (‘Jan Sunwai’) when a man in his early 30s approached her, handed over a document, and suddenly slapped her before grabbing her by the hair. Witnesses said he shouted abuses at the Chief Minister during the assault.
Several papers were recovered from the attacker. Their contents remain undisclosed, but sources indicated they were related to court matters.
The IANS news agency reported that in addition to slapping and pulling her hair, the man also struck Gupta on the head with a heavy object. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the incident, with Delhi unit president Virendra Sachdev describing it as “shameful and unacceptable.”
Delhi Police have not released the attacker’s identity, and an investigation is underway.
