Half of the advisers seem to have come to Bangladesh for an internship: Fahmida

Bangladesh has experts, many people from abroad are being given various responsibilities. They have no kind of experience here. It seems as if Advisers of Inrerim Government of Bangladesh have come here to do an internship.”

Despite having many experts in the country, a dozen advisers have been brought from abroad who have no experience. It seems they have come here to do an internship. They have no sense of the existing challenges in the country’s economy. Yet, they are being paid from the people’s tax money. This is unacceptable.

Dr. Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director of the research organization Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), made these remarks on Thursday at a seminar titled “LDC Graduation: Some Alternatives for Bangladesh.” The seminar was organized by the International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICCB) and held at the Sheraton Hotel in Banani, Dhaka.

Speaking about assigning advisers for LDC graduation matters, she said, “Even though Bangladesh has experts, many people from abroad are being given various responsibilities. They have no kind of experience here. It seems as if they have come here to do an internship.”

The CPD Executive Director further said: “For work on LDC graduation, an adviser has been brought from abroad. Why does the government need someone whose roots are not in this country? They have no feeling for the existing challenges in the country’s economy.”

She added: “We do not need people who want to learn while doing the work. They are being paid from the people’s tax money, and this is unacceptable.”
